*! Valentine’s Day Project: Please reminder your child bring an empty cereal box to the school (just bring the cereal boxes as they are). We will start to do the Valentine’s Day Project from next week in the center time.
#The students are asked to write a small letter for the each classmate (25 letters). The students have already got a list of all the children’s name in Chinese and a list of sentences and the letter format in Chinese which they can use for their letter writing. Please notice that the students are not asked to complete and to bring the all letters in this week, please make sure that they complete writing and bring the letters in class on the Valentine’s Day 2/14.#
* Dream Box: we will start dream box program in the centers from next week. DreamBox Learning Math is an online program with educational games that are individualized for your student, adapting the curriculum just for them. It’s a fun, effective math learning environment. Will provide more information regarding the students’ progresses.

- Mandarin Reading:We have completed the chapter of “Going to a Chinese Restaurant” which is from the third grade level Better Chinese to connect and to support our Dim Sum field trip. Also, we have learned vocabulary of Dim Sum and Chinese table manners. The students practiced chopsticks skills as well before going to the field trip. Of course, we had a great time in the restaurant!
- Mandarin Writing: help each kid individually with editing their passages, ‘how to make a bubble” . The students completed the project as well.
- Math:Complete Chapter 1 ( finding the missing number ) of Unit 7 (Methods for Mental Addition & Subtraction. ) Next week: Chapter 2 Methods for Mental Addition
Last year, some of our students went to the contests of poetry recital and drawing. It is great for the kids to have another chance to use Mandarin. The 9th Chinese Language Bridge Cup Contests for K-12 Students of 2013 has started to register. Please go to the online register www.sfsu.edu/~ci to check the information and to register for your child if you are interested. I would love to provide support at school as well.

- Mandarin Reading:We have completed the fifth chapter of My First Chinese Reader. The students are asked to recite the paragraphs of the chapter. Please remind your child complete the assignment.
- Mandarin Writing: 1. In Centers: the students completed editing their writing ” My Family” with my help individually. 2.In Class: keeping working on applying correct writing process in Chinese writing 3. Writing Activity : after practicing making bubbles by chewing gums, the students were asked to use the sequence words to write down the process of bubble making. We will edit the passages and complete the project next week.
- Math:Complete the Chapter of Division by 3. we will move on to Unit 7 Methods for Mental Addition & Subtraction.

* ! Chinese Dictation test on 1/25: a dictation test. Please help your child review the characters list on the pink color page they have got from last Friday.
* ! Chinatown Dim Sum Field Trip on 1/24: Thank you Rose (Anwen’s mom), Christine
(Niko’s mom), and Sally Mak (Buwei’s mom) for being the chaperons for this fieldtrip. On this day, we will go to the dim sum place on 10:45 and eat our lunch.

- Mandarin Reading:We started the fifth chapter of My First Chinese Reader. The students have the reading assignment. Please reminder your child to read aloud the passages on the yellow paper they have got.
- Mandarin Writing: 1. in centers: I have started to work with each student individually to help them write and edit their writing. 2. Chinese Reader Series: the students were involved in reading a book named ” My Good Friends”. They were also encourage to write the sentences to describe their friend by using the sentence structures in the book. 3. in class: we discussed how to apply a right writing process in Chinese writing. The students were asked to use the writing process to write a paragraph about the family.
- Math:Complete the Chapter of Division by 2. we will move on to Division by 3 from next week.
- Math Test Next Friday: Unit 1-Unit 6 Cumulative Test. Please help your child review *Multiplication and Division 2 &3 * Addition & Subtraction with renaming * World Problem
- Field Trip on Thursday 24th January : We will go to eat dim sum in Chinatown. The Horse class need 3 volunteers for the field trip. Please email Erin if you are interested. Here is the Dim Sum List which the students will taste on the day.
