*Last Week Learning

  • Characters: 美國人  中國  一點  加拿大  英國
  • Mandarin Reading:Started the new chapter of Better Chinese: “Direction”. The students have the reading assignment to practice reading the passages in the chapter ( pink paper). Please reminder your child complete the assignment.
  • Mandarin Writing: worked with each student individually on editing the essay they have wrote last week, “我家的車子”.
  • Math:Complete the Chapter 1 of Unit 8 Multiplying and dividing by 4. We will start Multiplying and Dividing by 5 after we come back school.

* Dictation Test on 3/6/2013. Please help your child review the characters they have learned on the review list( yellow paper) they have got. Thank you!


* we made dumplings on last Friday and everyone had a lot of fun! Thank you Buwei’s dad, Rose (Anwen’s Mom), Maggie (Jacob’s Mom) Channa Chu ( Carson’s Mom) and David Tjen (Emmett’s Dad)! Thank you very much for coming into the class to help!

* Chinese Comprehension Test  ( 2/13, Wednesday). The test includes listening, reading and writing. The students have got a yellow paper with the texts they have learned. Please help your child review the texts and get ready for the test.

Cumulative Math Test on next Friday( 2/15, Friday). We will have a cumulative math test of Unit 1 to Unit 7 which includes addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and measure. Please help your child review. 

* 2/14 Valentine’s Day( Thursday). Please reminder your child bring their Valentine’s Day letters on this day!

*Dream Box math: Log-in Instructions

In the last two weeks we have introduced an online, adaptive math program called DreamBox to our 1st and 2nd graders. Students can continue to advance through the leveled math games at home by accessing their own personalized DreamBox accounts; for instructions, learn how to log-in to DreamBox here.

*2/14 ( Thursday) Acrobatic Performance  at school! The school  have invited Chinese acrobats come to the school to do the performance for the students on 2/14 Thursday. It would be fun!

*2/15 ( Friday) both 2nd grade classes are going to the art exhibit at the Asia Branch of the Oakland Public Library on Friday 2.15.2013. The exhibition is hold by our art teacher Chen Laoshi. 

Last Week Learning

  • Characters: 東西, 塊, 多少錢,不客氣,賣
  • Mandarin Reading:we have completed the chapter ” Transportation”.
  • Mandarin Writing: 1 Whole Class:continue practicing applying a right writing process in Chinese writing. The students were asked to use the writing process to write an essay ” 我家的車”. The students are asked to edit their essay and bring back on Monday  (2/11). 2. Chinese Reader Series: the students were involved in reading a book named “ Go Shopping”. They were also encourage to use the sentence structures in the book to describe their shopping experience in centers.
  • Math:Completed Chapter 3 of Unit 7 Methods for Mental subtraction. Next week: Chapter 1 of Unit 8 Multiplying and dividing by 4. Please reminder your child keeping working on Multiplication Table of 4 &5. Thank you!

 


* Chinese New Year is COMING!  This year is Snake year. Good Luck for all Snake year people! Next Friday is our Dumpling Day for Chinese New Year! Happy New Year!

* Next Monday is One Hundred Day! Congratulations for all my students! They have successfully accomplished half second grade!

*No Math Test Next Friday(2/8/2013).

*Please continue to reminder your child to prepare their letters for Valentine’s Day.

  • Mandarin Reading:we have started new chapter ” Transportation”. Students have the reading assignment to practice reading three passages which we have learned in the class. The students are asked to read out the passages fluently. 
  • Mandarin Writing: 1 Whole Class:continue practicing applying a right writing process in Chinese writing. The students were asked to use the writing process to write an essay about lovely animals.  2. Chinese Reader Series: the students were involved in reading a book named “ Go Shopping”. They were also encourage to use the sentence structures in the book to describe their shopping experience.
  • Math:Have completed Chpter 2 Methods for Mental Addition. Next week: Methods for Mental Subtraction
